THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE
KUALA LUMPUR CHAPTER ACM SIGGRAPH
6 MARCH 2024
First Meeting of the Interim Kuala Lumpur Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH at MDEC Bangsar South. The interim committee was elected /appointed in late 2023.
It started with 9 Invited Industry and Academic Representatives together with three representatives from the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
12 DECEMBER 2024
First official meeting for the KL Chapter Interim Committee held at Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), Kuala Lumpur.
In attendance were 14 founding members including representatives from APU, Taylor's University, UOW Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology, Anima Vitae, Kreasia, Hidden Chest Studios, IGDA Malaysia and Game HQ Malaysia. Also present were representatives from MDEC and the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MYCEB).
10 JANUARY 2025 - MILESTONE ⭐
The KL Chapter held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) at UOW Malaysia to nominate and officially appoint the first Board Members and Respective Chairs of the chapter.
This was one the the largest gathering that the KL chapter had organised and had an amazing turnout from both Industry and Academia. Joining this session was Sunway University, Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), Virtuos KL and Metronomik.
2nd to 4th September 2025
The KL Chapter organized its first major event in conjunction with the ASEAN Digital Content Summit 2025. The event was called the KL Chapter ACM Extra Credits Awards and it consisted of a Tertiary level Final Year Project Competition in the area of Creative Media (Games, VR/AR, Animation and 3D Graphics). It also included a Creative Showcase and Industry talks which included an ACM SA2025 Hong Kong Student Volunteer Recruitment Talk.
The invited speakers were Nicholas Ngiem (SA2026 Student Volunteer Chair + Industrial Lights & Magic, UK), Ville Vaajakallio (Anima Vitae Point, Finland) and Hoi Jin Zhi (Passion Republic Games, Malaysia)
SIGNIFICANT MILESTONES OF THE KUALA LUMPUR CHAPTER ACM SIGGRAPH
29th July 2024
On this date, the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MYCEB) under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) under the Ministry of Digital organized a presentation session hosted by Malaysia Airports Berhad and attended by representatives from the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) and newly formed interim committee of the KL Chapter ACM SIGGRAPH.
The goal was to prepare the presentation deck and to present the bid proposal to the SIGGRAPH Asia Conference Advisory Group (SACAG) for Malaysia's bid to host the SIGGRAPH Asia 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.
3rd to 6th December 2024
The world’s brightest minds in computer graphics and interactive techniques have gathered in Tokyo for SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 (SA2024), organized by Koelnmesse and a regional conference of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
The KL Chapter representatives attended SA2024 for the first time together with representatives from MDEC and MYCEB to learn and network with the ACM SIGGRAPH community.
It was here we first met Prof. Dr. Frank Guan, future Chair of the SA2026 Kuala Lumpur.
15th to 18th December 2025
This time the Malaysian contingent attended the 18th ACM SIGGRAPH held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in full force.
It was important that Malaysia was present as this year, the SA2025 Chair Taku Komura handed the SA2026 reins to Dr. Frank Guan for the event in Kuala Lumpur.
